Butterflies in Ballgowns
One-of-a-Kind Dungarees & Overalls
Hand-Stitched from Upcycled Fabrics in Nelson, BC.

100% Rescued Materials
Every single piece I create is made from repurposed fabric. From the main body to the pockets, I’m committed to a zero-new-fiber philosophy, keeping perfectly good textiles out of our landfills.

Zero Mass-Production, Total Intention
Every garment is cut and stitched by me in my Nelson studio. I don’t believe in trends; I believe in sturdy, adjustable pieces built to last through years of joy and "dopamine-dressing" adventures.

One of a kind designs
Because I work with finite amounts of thrifted fabric, my designs are literal one-of-a-kinds. Once a specific curtain or duvet cover is used up, that exact look is gone forever!
Hi! I’m Jodie
I'm the founder, creator and sole maker behind Butterflies in Ballgowns.Â
My studio in Nelson, BC, is where 'forgotten' fabrics (think vintage floral sheets and grandmother’s curtains) come to get a second life as wearable art. After years of working in social services, I traded the burnout for a sewing machine and a mission: to save the planet through pure, unadulterated dopamine dressing.Â
For me, it’s about dressing up nature (putting a ballgown on a butterfly!) and keeping the earth healthy while I do it.Â
Every piece is a one-of-a-kind 'creative hyperfocus' project, handmade using only thrifted and upcycled fabrics. Â
Thank you for choosing slow fashion that’s loud, ethical, and built for joy. Let’s go save the world in style!

Butterflies in Ballgowns in the wild

The best overalls! I bought one pair for my sister in law and then brought some fabric from a thrift store and she made me a custom pair. Both are so cute and comfortable! Love them and get compliments everywhere I go!
